As England monarchs systematically were forced to convene and address their parliaments, the English colonists in North America would revolt and start a revolution. The United States would eventually be formed with the declaration of Independence and the Constitution written. A nation was born free from any monarchy- a form of representational democracy would emerge based on the ideals Enlightenment thinkers such as Voltaire, Locke, Rousseau, and others. The American Revolution will have a profound affect on what happens to France and the commoners across the Atlantic. Unbeknownst to the king, things would not turn out well for him or his wife Marie Antoinette. What emerged immediately afterwards would be even more devastating to thousands of French under the Reign of Terror and the rule of Robespierre. Democracy will not come easy for France as Napoleon will take control yet the seeds for democratic reforms are already entrenched into French society.
